The National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ) is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to drive change to improve children's health across the U.S.In this role, I work as a member of the Department of Applied Research and Evaluation on two key projects:the Community-Centered Hospital Initiative (CCHI) and the Maternal Health Training and Resource Center, both of which seek to address maternal health inequities and foster sustainable systems-level change.

The Tubman Center for Health and Freedom is a community organization committed to addressing wellness from both clinical and systemic approaches in the Seattle, WA. In this year-long Fellowship, I supported their mission of opening a community health center in the Rainier Valley district of Seattle in 2027. This included:- spearheading research for a quantitative data analysis project exploring health care usage and provider interactions in immigrant populations across the U.S- developing a commentary and presenting a poster on racial/ethnic data disaggregation needs for Black Americans- co-leading a provider visioning qualitative research project interviewing health care providers and learning of their unique unmet needs in current health infrastructure- co-developing a syllabus for a youth participatory action research (YPAR)/health justice class with Scholars from the Rainier Valley Leadership Academy, focusing on community-connected research and advocacy.

Worked alongside Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC)- an integrated healthcare system that provides the majority of healthcare services to residents in the Commonwealth of Mariana Islands (CNMI). Led quantitative data analysis project using data from the CNMI Hybrid study, an adult population-based survey conducted every 5 years, to examine prevalence of family planning use, types of family planning methods used and potential barriers to access on the Islands.Presented findings at the Pacific Islander Health Officers Association’s 73rd Executive Board Meeting in Garapan, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.

Generated a landscape analysis concerning barriers to successful breast/chestfeeding for Black parents in San Francisco. Scheduled and conducted stakeholder interviews with various OB-GYNs, lactation consultants, social workers and community-based organizations. Conducted a literature review on breast/chestfeeding in San Francisco and California and refined qualitative research protocols.

Assisted with research administration for a study evaluating the Abundant Birth Project- a universal basic income supplement program for Black and Pacific Islander pregnant people. Administered 50+ two-hour long quantitative surveys and three in-depth qualitative interviews through REDCap with Black and Pacific Islander pregnant people regarding their pregnancy and birth experiences.Contributed to a manuscript describing clients in a doula program’s experiences receiving services.Conceptualized, directed and produced a series of informational videos for study participants explaining the purpose of the study.Assisted in training 1 onboarding student researcher on interview protocols.

I worked with Professor Natalie Lira, Ph.D. on her research with the National Institute of Health researching instances of eugenic sterilization in North Carolina. This included analyzing de-identified medical documents and entering the information into the web application REDCap. On this project we also conducted extensive qualitative analysis of the information given in the sterilization records, and examined what prompted the state’s Eugenics board to carry out the procedures.
