Software engineer/2nd line support engineer with experience of working in Agile software delivery projects at many different levels. However, my real passion is in software testing.Since September 2018, I have been privileged to work as part of the small IT team at VIP Computers. Ostensibly, my role is as a .Net developer. However, this is a very dynamic company with a diverse user community, a very large number of bespoke applications which all need full time support/maintenance. From September 2006 to July 2018, I undertook development, testing and 2nd line support for HPE ProtectTools Authentication Services (AS) ,PGS (Password Generation Services) and Multi-Factor Authentication Services (MFA). AS and MFA are CESG certified products. The purpose of these applications is to augment the authentication facilities provided by Microsoft Windows by extending the Credential provider interface. Due to their fundamental nature, they need to be tested in a range of different and complex environments so I have gained a fair degree of knowledge in Active Directory, Citrix and various different Windows operating systems from Windows Server 2003/XP all the way up to Windows 10 and Server 2016. just recently, I had to verify that AS was compatible with AD FS so I setup Federated Services between two different company domains. In development/testing of MFA, I have become very familiar with setting up a smart card infrastructure. Development of both AS and MFA required a significant amount of time debugging the application using a remote kernel debugger as the system started up from boot time. Most of AS and MFA functionality runs before the user has even logged on so normal desktop application rules did not apply. Also, distribution kits were created using Installshield. Prior to that (from 2004 to 2006) my role was as a technical team leader for a project whose objective was to migrate all of the applications used by one of the UK major banks to a Citrix XenApp environment. Approxitmately, 50% of the project team had come over from India so one of the biggest challenges was to overcome cultural barriers to enable the team to operate effectively.
