About Marie Eve Didier

I am the CEO and founder of MATIS, a startup dedicated to providing cutting-edge and accessible solutions for characterizing delicate art samples. My extensive background is rooted in years of academic expertise spanning neurophotonics, image processing, and art-focused imaging technologies. This expertise is shaped by my Ph.D. in Nonlinear Optics from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and a dual foundation in Archeometry and conservation science. With over a decade of experience, I specialize in developing and applying innovative technologies derived from fundamental research in the academic realm to the art ecosystem. My overarching mission is to foster collaboration between physicists, scientists, and art professionals. This involves creating and implementing state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to enhance the comprehension, preservation, and appreciation of cultural heritage. These scientifically robust analyses are not only instrumental in assessing and facilitating art transactions but also contribute to the establishment of robust standards in transaction processes, condition reporting, and art investments in banking. Additionally, since December 2020, I have held the position of Executive Director and Co-founder at RestARTBeirut, a European philanthropic fund dedicated to safeguarding art and collections in Beirut.I excel in communication and naturally thrive in interdisciplinary and multicultural environments. My passion lies in leveraging my skills and expertise to make a positive impact on society and culture.

  • Epfl (École Polytechnique Fédérale De Lausanne)
    Phd
Epfl (École Polytechnique Fédérale De Lausanne) May 2013 - Nov 2018
    Région De Lausanne, Suisse
Working on a novel microscopy technique derived from the fundamental principles of nonlinear optics, more specifically Second Harmonic Generation. The innovative layout of our microscopy setup allows a one-shot illumination, high imaging throughput and the detection of signals linked to the "electric field", in materials or at bio-interfaces. My PhD topic is to implement, develop and use this imaging technique and apply it on the detection of label-free electric activity and structural changes in neurons.
  • Marie Curie Alumni Association
Early Stage Researcher, Finon (Female Investigation For Nonlinear Nanoscopy - Marie Curie Action)
Marie Curie Alumni Association May 2013 - Sep 2017
    Région De Lausanne, Suisse
http://www.finon-itn.eu/3085/esrsI am part of the Marie Curie action FINON (Female Investigation for Nonlinear Nanoscopy). This network was the core of my PhD work. We developped an international network in Nonlinear Imaging techniques from the most influential universities and institutions in Europe. Being part of this action enabled me to organize international scientific events, to manage international and pluridisciplinary collaboration, manage a team and project budget, and deliver concise work reports and presentations within definite deadlines. The topic of this European network is centered on the use of Nonlinear Optical techniques for bio-oriented applications. Either using Second Harmonic Generation imagine, Raman spectroscopy or 4-wave mixing, we all contributed to an efficient pluridisciplinary collaboration.

    Washington Dc
I was working as an Imaging Fellow at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. I used and implemented hyper spectral and multispectral non-destructive imaging techniques to characterize paintings. I developped a routine based on matter-light interactions to improve the visualization of under drawings in oil paintings on canvas or wood.
