I am a Deaf individual with lots of lived experience who is passionate about ensuring that d/Deaf people feel empowered and are given equal opportunities in society. I am a strong leader and in any challenging situations, I will work tirelessly to find solutions and strategies to get through these difficult scenarios with a client centred approach at the heart of my decision making. Throughout my career I have always endeavoured to combine my passion, knowledge and skills and impart this onto a wider scope of individuals and organisations to change their insights. I have worked within the Deaf community over 20 years in the fields of domestic abuse, sexual violence and mental health. I am passionate about breaking down barriers within the community and making sure that the community have access to services. It is through my extensive experience of working, supporting, and advocating for Deaf clients and being a part of the frontline services that I can see large number of barriers when navigating complex systems. Each role I have undertaken had added an enhanced awareness, knowledge, and skill set that I have been able to transfer to different areas of both professional and personal life. I always aim to maintain a professional appearance and consider myself a team player who thrives in dynamic environments. Working in roles that aim to support and empower both the individual and organisation has been increasingly become not only a career aim but a personal passion of mine. I am committed to my work with integrity, and believe in continual professional development - for myself and for members of my team. As a head of service, I am continually aiming to show good leadership to others, from project manager through to completing accreditation process. Recent achievements - Expanded our domestic abuse service from a South-East England service into a national service that now includes providing sexual violence support. This was by the collation of evidence during the COVID-19 pandemic where we were funded to provide remote support to clients thoughout England. This remote support has now evolved to face to face support. - Worked in partnership with Refuge to set up a BSL Helpline for Deaf women to access advice/support. - Led SignHealth to become an accrediated “Leading Lights” service. This show that we are a quality marked service in providing support to domestic abuse victims. - Commissioned a Deaf-led project to develop films about domestic abuse in BSL to ensure the Deaf community are aware of domestic abuse.
