Launch Charleston's Resilient, Innovative, Sustainable, Efficiency Standards or Charleston RISES, a green building certification program for new commercial buildings. Work with real estate developers and building owners to deploy energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy systems. Lead and facilitate critical urban planning projects as part of sustainable redevelopment initiatives. Develop and refine the Institute's systems for evaluation, measurement and verification of services for building performance.

Analyzed fleet conversions to alternative fuels using the DOE PREP and GREET Fleet Footprint models. Promoted coalition and EcoCAR 2 activities. Produced videos for the National Clean Cities channel on Youtube. Supported the Alternative Fuels Implementation Team efforts in the natural gas for transportation charrette and participated in toolkit development. Assisted in the development of a renewable energy credit system for electric vehicles in North Carolina.

Represented the interests of graduate students at UNC-CH. Served on the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee (RESPC). RESPC managed $200,000 in annual funding to implement renewable energy, energy efficiency, and education projects on campus. Served on the Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC). SAC recommended long-term sustainability goals for the university, examined existing incentives, and proposed strategies to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.

Researched energy, land-use planning, policy and health issues. Created energy efficiency simulations for existing buildings to determine the value of retrofit strategies. Evaluated renewable energy projects for the military. Investigated the effects of renewable energy production and smart grid strategies on economic development.

Identified the role of Smart Grid technology in conjunction with other renewable energy alternatives to reduce electrical system vulnerabilities during energy emergencies. Reported ARRA fund activities and expenditures to the DOE. Organized interviews, meetings, and conferences with multiple state and federal agencies, utilities, industry associations, private sector energy providers, and third party contractors to facilitate the establishment of the Smart Grid and associated technologies in North Carolina. Developed and executed statewide and regional EA training exercises with NC Emergency Management, NC Utilities Commission, NASEO, NARUC, the private sector, and other stakeholders. Coordinated with NC Emergency Management to generate an updated energy crisis response plan for the State of North Carolina. Served on the Research Triangle Regional Partnership Cleantech Cluster and North Carolina Plug-In Electric Vehicle Task Force steering committees.

Senior electrical designer and main contact between clients and internal departments. Designed LEED certified projects, including a hotel that reduced lighting energy usage by over 40%. Coordinated with utilities, municipalities and state government to earn client rebates for energy efficient designs.
