With more than seven years of experience as a Campaigns Director at America's Voice and 10 years in advocacy, I'm a communications professional who leads and executes strategic plans to support the organization's mission and objectives.     As a Youth Development Specialist, I was assigned to work with the Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (the national child protective services agency). PANI. I carried out community development activities at the grassroots level working directly with local counterparts, community leaders, and donor organizations. • Organized and directed a six week course for 173 sixth grade students in the Guarari elementary school on the importance of staying in school by using materials provided by Junior Achievement, an NGO that promotes vocational training. • Proposed and financed an ecological park at the school in Guarari, with the objectives and goals of environmental education and awareness by creating a healthier space to study. • Coordinated and hosted local soccer tournaments to provide the (approximately how many?) kids of Guarari a fun and healthy recreational activity promoting life skills such as respect, integrity, friendship, and teamwork. • Established a pen-pal program between (how many?) grade school students in Costa Rica and high school students in El Paso, Texas, teaching cultural awareness between my life at home and my life in Costa Rica. • Lead two Chicas Poderosas (“Powerful Girls”) youth groups, one of 8 fourth grade girls and the other group consisting of 8 sixth grade young women. The life skills taught were sexual awareness and education, communication, leadership, drug awareness and prevention, self esteem, among others. • Planned and organized a sexual education lecture on World Aids Day, on December 1 2009, by inviting a local doctor to our school in Guarari and having him present information to 67 sixth graders focusing on preventative measures. • Facilitated two sexual awareness discussions for all of the 8th grade class at the night high school in Guarari. • Invited “Outside the Lens”, a U.S. based NGO to give a photography workshop to 20 sixth grade students ultimately teaching them the fundamentals of photography.
