Scientist for Prime Roots, a new alternative meat startup developing sustainable protein from filamentous fungi.Responsibilities:Strain Discovery/Development: -Designed, executed, and analyzed data for project to conduct genomic analysis of filamentous fungi strains culminating in a final report disseminated throughout company. Understand and model upstream neurochemical systems that act on gonadotropin-releasing hormone/RFamide related peptide (RFRP-3)-- a key component on the reproductive and HPG axis. Contributing towards multiple projects, which includes: examining the patterns of hormone changes in the context of seasonality/reproductive state; looking at testosterone and aggression in mice. Actively contribute towards testing by conducting multiple rounds of pilot experiment and real experiment, monitoring submissive/dominant fighting behaviors, extracting perfused brains at end of experiment for future analysis.Primary Techniques: Cresyl Violet stain, cryostat work, extraction/sample preparation of AVPV, ARC, DMH, RNA extraction (Bioline kit, Purezol protocol)Additional Techniques: PCR, Work with ImageJ computer program (cell counting, quantification of cell intensity/size), immunohistochemistry protocol, sample visualization with fluorescent microscope, behavioral study and basic mouse husbandry, brain tissue extraction.
