Serving patrons in the greater Lansing, MI area, I develop youth print, digital and audio visual collections for 13 branch libraries and one mobile library connected to Capital Area District Libraries (CADL). I regularly participate in the Early Childhood Literacy Coalition serving Ingham County as well other community organizations seeking to promote reading and school readiness for all children. As the leader of CADL's Youth Services committee I actively work with others to encourage the enthusiastic receiving of our annual Summer Reading Program for all patrons. Promoting our collections and libraries in general is something the other selectors and myself are passionate about, so I write recommendations, blogs and assist with CADL's online Book Sleuth recommendation service.

Mason, Mi

I actively sought out and connected with educators in the Mason and Ingham County area to promote early literacy practices, library resource instruction and access to books and programs for tweens & teens.Along with the head librarian I planned a weekly a story time program based on the Every Child Ready to Read framework and Mother Goose on the Loose resources. I planned activities engaging patrons and parents in science oriented programs, craft creations and book parties for children of all ages. I encouraged reading skills and socialization by offering book groups for elementary and middle school students and successfully led a Battle of the Books program at our local middle school.By working with the Youth Services Collection Development Specialist I suggested and purchased additional books for the children's and young adult collection.I worked with the Mason Library staff to provide a quality Summer Reading Program for our juvenile and young adult patrons.

Lansing, Michigan Area

Provided reference service to patrons, maintained US citizenship materials and an ESOL collection as well as purchased for the self-help/psychology and world language collections at the Downtown Lansing Branch of Capital Area District Libraries. Part of my work as a Reference Librarian was to seek out and receive offers serving patrons of Capital Area District Libraries. I am especially interested in ESOL resources and services, foreign language opportunities and self-help collection development for public libraries.By working with community partners I assisted the Downtown Lansing Branch to begin offering ESOL and US citizenship classes for patrons seeking to improve their English skills and attain citizenship.I worked with other staff to record and upload online youtube book reviews.
