Developed Kids' Farmers Markets at Roanoke Public Libraries and other after-school children feeding sites. This program let kids "purchase" fresh fruit and vegetables using food bank bucks to teach budgeting skills and increase interest in fresh food.

My goal as a VISTA for Feeding America Southwest Virginia is to increase the capacity of our partner feeding programs by strengthening their operations, providing more relief to food insecure individuals, and arranging additional resources that promote better health and alleviate the effects of poverty in our partner programs' service area. To accomplish these goals, my responsibilities include compiling an "Agency Capacity Workbook", a 130-page manual that covers non-profit management for our partner programs, 25 recipe cards and several handouts. I also started a Monthly Agency Newsletter. In addition, I organized two conferences, which a total of 200 people attended, that focused on resources open to partner feeding programs. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Vice President of Programs, I identified 19 partner feeding programs that could move more fresh produce and scheduled the produce distribution times and amount.

Moonstruck Chocolate Company, an artisanal chocolate company, gave me excellent customer service experience, improved my organizational skills and furthered my Microsoft Office skills. As a customer service representative, my responsibilities included assisting with the daily customer service needs as well as working in the retail store, which comprised answering customers’ questions about our chocolate, organizing the product, and assisting the receptionist with administrative tasks, Besides customer service, I processed the online chocolate orders to ready it for shipping.

As the intern for Franklin University’s Sustainable Garden, I maintained the garden; my responsibilities included weeding and watering the garden on a regular basis, planting, harvesting, and preparing the beds. I was the liaison between the Sustainable Agriculture Club and the Center for Sustainable Initiatives.

I helped incoming freshmen adjust to collegiate academic standards and college life working with a professor. In addition, I organized educational materials and led class discussions.

During this internship, I had three areas in which I assisted the team: the office, the farm, and the farm stand. At the office, I researched information and items that we needed to purchase, inputted data from the previous week, and organized information. While at the farm, I helped implement and run the drip irrigation system, weeded the demo beds and built and maintained a plant teepee- a bamboo structure that ornamental gourds and beans grew up to create a shady space to sit under. My responsibilities at the New Roots Saturday farm stands included tracking the demographic information of our customers and helping to set up and take down the tents for the farm stand.Another important aspect of this internship was assisting the refugees that the International Rescue Committee serves.
