I conduct independent research into various aspects of 18th-century Scottish history and culture, in which field I give papers, am published, and teach adult education classes for the City of Edinburgh. I have recently completed courses of study in bibliography as well as having been awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Archives and Record Management (with Distinction) by the University of Dundee. My latest research outputs treating the Scottish Enlightenment appeared in 2022.

I managed a team of staff and volunteers in the delivery of high quality and engaging visitor experiences - from formal learning (nursery to tertiary), guided tours, exhibitions, talks, and events to community outreach and partnership work across the heritage sector. I specialised in communicating the material, cultural and intellectual history of Scotland during the long eighteenth century and have been published and given papers in this area to international academic audiences. Newhailes

I was responsible for all types of educational output and engagement at Newhailes, a historic house and estate near Musselburgh.

I tutored, lectured and assessed undergraduates and other students in a wide range of courses for the Department of Philosophy. I was also involved in: invigilating examinations; conducting student recruitment interviews; creating and developing new courses in philosophy for undergraduates and the general public; setting up, organising and teaching on various school-oriented and other extramural schemes, including providing teaching support at local secondary schools.
