Mark is a transformational not-for-profit executive. He served as the first President and CEO of the Catholic Foundation of Long Island, with responsibility for inaugurating the operations this new Catholic Foundation and establishing fundraising, investment, and distribution of its philanthropic resources for programs of the healthcare, education and Catholic Charities ministries within the Diocese of Rockville Centre. In the Spring of 2021, the Foundation became part of the Bankruptcy of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and was forced to cease operations. Until December 2018, Mark was the EVP and COO of Lighthouse Guild International and President of Lighthouse Guild Services and Programs Corporations. Lighthouse Guild is an international leader in the provision of services for individuals who are blind, are affected by low vision. Lighthouse Guild International was formed in 2013 as a result of a merger which Mr. Ackermann was influential in accomplishing between Lighthouse International and Jewish Guild Healthcare. Prior to the merger, Mark served as President and CEO of Lighthouse International for five years. Prior to joining Lighthouse International, Mark served in various senior management positions at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center beginning in 1983, and held the position of Chief Administrative Officer of the hospital’s successor corporation, Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers until June 2007. From 2007 through 2009, Mark served as the Special Assistant to His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan and Executive Director of the Office of the Papal Visit for the Archdiocese of New York. In this capacity he was responsible for all aspects of the Visit to The Archdiocese of New York by Pope Benedict XVI in April 2008. In 2015, he assisted in the planning and execution of Pope Francis’s visit to New York and coordinated the Time/Fortune Global Forum at the Vatican in 2016.Mark holds a BA Degree from the Catholic University of America and a MS Degree in Not-For-Profit Management from New York University. He is an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University. He currently serves on a number of not-for-profit boards including the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Justice and Peace in the Vatican and is a special advisor to the Path to Peace Foundation at the Holy See’s Mission to the United Nations. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the United States Association of Blind Athletes which sponsors several teams in the Paralympics.
