As General Manager my goal is to ensure the members and guests of Baker Hill completely enjoy their experience at the Club from the moment they arrive until they leave and whenever they are considering their next rond. As an instructor, my goal is to create the correct perception so my students to improve. Mis-perception is the root cause of most high handicapper's (90% of the golfing public) problems. The golf club was originally designed to extricate a ball from ground that was not manicured. The clubface is difficult for people to understand. It makes the ball go up and left. Most high handicappers hit the back of the ball, or the ground behind the ball (too much up and too much left) and then have to correct. Many instructors then correct the symptoms: over plane, chicken wing, slice, improper weight shift, lack of distance, etc. It is always a better strategy or a more lasting strategy to get at the cause of the problem first. Do what you can to change your perception first. What are you trying to do to the ball with that club? Once you learn what you are really supposed to do, follow that intention. Apply that singular behavior to the swing and then begin correcting the details. Distance and consistency will improve immediately, the rest, if there is anything left is much easier to influence/change.It is difficult if not impossible, to make big improvements in your swing, w/o changing creating the correct intention.
