I am a recent graduate from Northumbria University, where I achieved a 1st class Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Accounting. The structure of my course enabled me to complete a one-year placement in the finance industry. This was in the role of Finance Assistant at the Oxfam Finance Office in Newcastle. This allowed me to combine my academic studies with practical experience of the industry, furthering my understanding and knowledge carrying out such tasks as Bank Reconciliation, Invoice Processing and Purchase Ledger work alongside many other administration tasks within this busy finance office. I am a methodical and focused person, with a good ability to manipulate large pieces of data with accuracy, moreover I enjoy adapting to new systems and to different challenges. This allows me to continue to develop upon the skills I acquired while completing my work placement and academic principles gained in modules at University such as Management Accounting & Analytics. I enjoy the opportunity to converse and explore ideas as part of a team, but also feel comfortable working independently and was given the responsibility of a carrying out a long term project into the utility billing process for all the Oxfam shops in the UK whilst on my placement year.Both my time at University and employment in professional workplaces have allowed me to gain experience of working under pressures of strict deadlines, which I feel comfortable working under because of the time-management techniques I applied in these environments. Working in various environments has allowed me to develop important communication skills, moreover it has helped me to grow in confidence and maturity, meaning that I now feel confident to embark on a long term career in this sector.
