I have been working with laboratory automation for the last ten years developing a diverse range of automated assays. As a member of a small team I have responsibility for maintaining, upgrading and sourcing new instrumentation for the group. I work with integrators and system builders to construct bespoke robotic systems to meet the specific needs of target assays or laboratory users.I don't mean to be 'that' person, but if you just send a connection request with some information such as how we know each other, or why we should know each other, I will ignore it.An essential part of my work is analysing systems in terms of personnel, equipment, media and data. This gives a holistic understanding of the process so that I can tailor a solution which meets all the users needs, eliminating rather than shifting the bottleneck. I place great store in the importance of people to the experimentation process. Anything I can do to help the experimenter to do the work easily in the correct way prevents errors and delays. I have demonstrated the value of this on many occasions and heavily use tools like Poka-yoke.My instrumentation role requires skills in general machinery safety, the machinery directive, CE marking and PUWER. I am experienced in FMEA analysis and demonstrate the benefits of this and Machinery Concept analysis techniques to find weaknesses in machines and processes. If a significant failure mode is found, I try to engineer a way around it, or failing that use SOP to alert users to this particular system weakness.Prior to my High throughput work, I was a bench chemist so I'm able to understand the science as well as the machinery.
