CurrentThe Head of Environment Technical Services acts as the technical environmental authority for HS2 Ltd to set and assure the environmental technical requirements and standards for the project. It determines policies in conjunction with National Authorities and operates to a Ministerial level.The role manages and oversees a collective of Environmental discipline teams covering the technical areas of:Heritage; Noise & Vibration; Air Quality; Water Resources; WFD; Flood Risk; Groundwater; Waste & Materials; Carbon; and Climate Change.The role:▪ Owns the management of the Environment discipline teams, associated budgets and contracts. ▪ Ensures environmental specialists maintain Technical Standards that support the development, design, construction and operational delivery of the new railway. ▪ Ensures Technical Standards remain compliant with HS2 Act(s), other Legislation, Environmental Minimum Requirements and continue to remain relevant.▪ Manages the provision of technical functional advice and support across the business to ensure HS2 discharges its Nominated Undertaker responsibilities within budget and maintains programme and schedule. ▪ Manages the provision of internal and external advice, to executive/senior management, on environmental and sustainability strategies/policies being formulated either internal or external to HS2. ▪ Oversees and manages the provision of risk-based Line Of Defence (LOD 2) functional assurance activity in support of Delivery and Development teams. ▪ Oversees and manages topic related reporting into the annual Environment Sustainability Progress Report and supports external requests for information.▪ Leads development, design and articulation of approaches that promote and embed agreed corporate strategies that seek to establish HS2 as a leader in areas such as Decarbonisation.
