To provide adequate health, safety, environmental and quality support to the Energy from Waste site and other energy sites within the business as part of the SHEQ support team to ensure full compliance.The biggest achievement gained within this role is the successful development and roll out of the business’ behavioural safety program, developed for the whole business and created specifically to suit the different divisions. I have been heavily involved in the development of a number of the division’s policies and procedure such as: DSEAR Policy and Risk Assessment Template; Legionella, Manual Handling...to name a few.Undertaking risk assessments on work equipment to ensure compliance with PUWER, advising the site on compliance with any relevant BS EU and/or ISO standards.Involvement with the Permit to Work steering group to ensure a consistent approach across the energy business with the production of procedural documents stipulating responsibilities and approaches to permits to work and isolations within energy from waste. Development of an appointed persons procedure and authorisation panel for those applying isolations.Coaching employees and guiding management on the development of Risk Assessments to ensure they can become self sufficient in reducing foreseeable risks and influencing them on approaching the assessment of tasks following the hierarchy of controls.Planning shutdowns with management and ensuring contractor compliance. Compliance with CDM regulations and a year on year reduction of incidents. Involvement in the construction of our many new energy from waste plants.Ensuring environmental compliance against the site permitted operations. Liaising with the environmental agency for periodic reporting figures and any breach of emissions.

Sita Tees Valley Energy From Waste

Being part of a strong Health and Safety support team working in the energy sector of the business, offering support, guidance, advice and coaching to staff, employees, contractors and management within the Energy from Waste business within SITA UK. Being involved with the construction of new EfW plants and giving support to existing sites around the country.- Assisting Supervisors and Managers in producing risk assessments- Behavioural Safety development, implementation, training and guidance - Help develop a working system towards ISO 18001- Permits to work- Create Safe Working Procedures- Coaching of staff- Accident investigation- Display Screen Equipment assessments and advice on purchasing and use- COSHH assessments and advice- Taking lead in developing inductions for contractors for plant shut downs- Contractor monitoring during shut downs- Toolbox talk development to co-incide with current trends and activities- Continuing my professional development by attending Local and national IOSH and HSE seminars

North Tyneside Transfer Station

Supervising the operations of a waste transfer station with around 100+ vehicle movements per day recycling and resourcing over 100,000 ton of waste per year. Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) dealing with local authority residents waste disposal. Recycling baler operations from commercial contracts and overseeing the production of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) being processed into bales ready for export to Energy from Waste plants, fulfilling contracts in both Holland and Sweden.Experience in exporting of materials and waste for treatment and as a fuel.Being partly responsible and having control of the site budget, ensuring procurement of staff services and consumables.The daily operations of the whole site would include being responsible for the H&S of staff on site, ensuring that Risk assessments and Safe Working Procedures have been written and completed with the site staff to implement a sound safety culture with all involved. Ensuring cover for staff holidays and development of matrixes to ensure full staff and site compliance with H&S, Environmental duties against management systems ISO18001, ISO9001 and ISO 14001. Development of staff through training matrixes and personal development discussions helped put them on the right career path and develop success throughout their career.Liaising with local authorities whom we served on a daily basis and dealing with issues raised by them and also ensuring that the waste being brought to site was recycled as much as possible to achieve contract obligations.

Newcastle Resource Recovery Centre

Leading a team of 26 staff including two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC). Leading the safe operations of a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) plant which produced Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), compost compound from organic residue and ferrous and non ferrous metals from local authority household waste.Assisting and advising on Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures. Being involved with H&S decisions as a Health and Safety representative for the staff on site. Covering Supervisors during holidays and also covering other sites from Teesside to Inverness.

Site operative working at a waste transfer station and Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) plant. Being trained to use and operate various types of machinery from loading shovels to 360 excavator type machines. Full use and operating the MBT plant following start up and shut down procedures. Covering for local sites within the scope of the business.
