I’m a Journeyman Pattern Maker that has transitioned along with this changing trade. I started as wood pattern maker, adding to that CAM & CNC with experience in building foundry tooling such as match plates, cope and drag patterns, large mass transit patterns (truck and side frames, bolsters) I have built tooling out of wood, aluminum and combinations of aluminum, plastic and sand as well as Styrofoam patterns . I have worked on all-core dry sand tooling (mostly for the aerospace industry) I have 15+ years of operating 3-axis CNC along with Surfcam software to create cutter path. I have used 3D models to machine tooling board core plugs & patterns as well as cutting directly into red board pattern or box, I have even cut cast iron shell boxes. Currently I am working for at Ross Aluminum Castings in west central Ohio. I help with the 3D modeling, creating cutter path to machine tooling on the CNC Vertical Milling Center and the building of new tooling. I am assisting in making new core boxes to replace existing all-core tooling. We do work for a variety industries that we supply castings including aerospace, racing, truck transmissions and oil pans, manifolds, volutes etc.
