I have had a fulfilling career as a professional in the Engineering Construction Industry for over 40 years. This has encompassed a wide range of activities from design through management, that included construction and startup of numerous plastics, chemicals and refined products facilities. I am currently focused on multi-functional use opportunities for hybrid and pure electric vehicles combined with photovoltaic panel based energy systems. This means that owners of existing hybrid/EV's can potentially use them for energy storage for off-grid electrical generation as well as back-up generation of electricity during grid failures. This will become a reality as battery technology/costs improve. Having lead the Energy Transformation Initiative with Jacobs Engineering and now Worley, it is clear that the incredible energy storage potential of EVs will out pace all other forms of energy storage required to bring on the massive "renewable" energy sources planned around the World. As grid compliant V2H/V2B/V2G equipment finally comes to market, hopefully this potential will be fully embraced by both vehicle OEMs and regulators.Gaining "hands on" experience is critical, so I've completed an upgrade to a "solar shed" that provides both storage for typical rural maintenance equipment (OK, tractors!), but also incorporates two complete solar energy systems for the main house on the property. This includes both AC and DC based charge systems for my Nissan Leaf.As an amateur, I've most enjoyed rural property development, designing of rural cabins, barns, and multi-functional storage structures. Many of these designs have been constructed and enjoyed by their owners for a number of years. An important aspect of owning rural property is wildlife management. Combating ever increasing encroachment of feral species provides "grass roots" solutions to many problems. Control of eastern red cedars and feral hogs are the top two issues in my area of Texas. I'd certainly enjoy passing along my experiences.
