Design how airports work in the functional area of Ground Operations. My role was to understand best practice, constraints toward achieving best practice and working toward continuous improvement. The other key part of my role was to influence front-line leaders and wider business stakeholders on how the process best works to deliver high performance in the functional area and to implement (or work with project teams to implement) changes brought about by project work and safety. It was expected that I monitor divisional and individual airports’ performance relating to underwing activities and other departmental actives that may impact airside operations. This involved a combination of analysis, direct front-line observation, working with front-line leaders to ensure frontline team members understand best practice, and through changes to the design of our practices. Individually, I was accountable for all relevant documentation and communication related to my functional area.
