Projects: Royal Mail IT Service Transition Project: movement of RM systems to new service provider. Systems: The Capgemini portfolio of systems included two mainly Ingres systems for the processing of franked mail (METERS) and stock control of printed bar-coded labels (LMS). Their combined annual revenue for Royal Mail is in excess of £1Billion.Tasks: Assimilated knowledge of the above systems and passed onto off shore resource remotely, so that we could provide system support and enhancements as part of the overall project. Produced application packs, technical documents. Mentored and transferred knowledge to a variety of people. Also delivered KT of systems (SQL Server) outside my original remit.

Project: Rebase Producer Prices Index (PPI&SPPI) Project (Aug 2012 – Sep 2014)Systems: PPI/SPPI – (Services) Producer Price InquiryTasks: Technical Lead Developer for the team that developed an automated system which reset high- profile (used by government) statistical data (indices – used to predict the economy) from a 2005 base year to 2010. This system was delivered over a 24month period by a team of up to 6 IT resources to budget, within time scales and produced substantial cost saving to ONS.Project: Environments Best Practice Project(EBP)(Nov 2011 – Aug 2012): Systems: All ONS Ingres SystemsTasks: Reviewed Statistical Inquiry Systems at ONS, both at technical and process level, identifying key areas of improvement to the development lifecycle, liaising with all levels of IT personnel to implement changes.

Projects: Conversion of Inquiries to SIC2007 references.Systems: Common Software - processes company data received via questionnaire for approx. 20 business critical Inquiries such as the Retail Sales Inquiry and the Monthly Business Survey.Tasks: The project required that the standard industry codes(SIC) that were based on a year of 2003 to be restructured to the 2007 equivalents. This was a fundamental change to the Common Software system and data. I developed and delivered the above complex changes.

I was responsible for producing design documentation, estimation, creating solutions, analysis and program specifications as well as programming, unit testing, system testing and business and user liaison.

Support Ingres Applications (Parcelforce/Royal Mail): I was part of the team that migrated the Central Tracking System from Ingres to Oracle. I provided support for and enhancement of the Labels and Meters Management System. I provided Ingres database administration 24/7 on-call Support. Roles and Responsibilities: I was accountable for all operations involving support of Ingres Applications, Programming, Analysis, Specifications, User Liaison, Performance Tuning, Database Administration and On-Call support services (user acceptance and production support).I provided valuable support for a range of projects solving incidents against the systems as well as analysing the problems and providing timely solutions for various systems that included:Central Tracking System, a complex system allowing users to track parcel whereabouts from anywhere in the country.Labels and Meters Management System, controlling requests for delivery, issue and stock control of parcel labels.Meters Management Systems, recording details of credits held on franking machines used by a variety of customers throughout the country and controlling the administration of resetting franking machines and statistics.The systems consist of a number of ABF applications, C programs and UNIX shell scripts. Reference data held within LMS is sent to a variety of other systems.

Conversion from Mainframe system to Ingres (Royal Sun Alliance): Conversion of Marine Policy, Accounts, Reinsurance, Claims and Exchange data from mainframe system to an Ingres application and database. The project included: Initial Data Conversion and new Application going live, Data Quality and Second Conversion, adding the data from Royal merger with Sun, Enhancements and Taking the Application In-house.Roles and Responsibilities: Coordinating work schedules for up to four programmers, programming the initial data conversion in Ingres 4GL, ESQL & C. Developing and converting suite of programs to load source mainframe data to Ingres target database. Obtaining data from the mainframe, loading the ‘raw’ data onto the database, running the conversion suite and loading data onto databases for UAT.I also developed new and enhanced existing reports and investigated issues to fix any data problems on the system. Coordinating the UAT database for application of data fixes and ensuring all work from the in-house development team meet required standards. Responsible for applying database changes, maintenance and ensuring smooth operations throughout the company merger.
