I am a Social Care Worker for the Health Service Executive. I am currently employed in Ennis, Co. Clare worker in a day service for adults with disabilities. My roles include conducting daily groups for the service users in areas such as horticulture therapy, culinary skills, and climate change. I also carry out one to one work with a service user with complex needs and who displays behaviors that challenge. I have worked across five services during my time in this role including assisting in setting up a new service which is located in Lower Mallow street, Limerick.

I worked as a support worker in a residential home in Westbury, Co, Limerick for six months supporting a service user with autism spectrum disorder and who presented with behaviours that challenge.

My time spent at St. Camillus was another valuable opportunity to explore the work done by social care workers in Ireland.As a part of Camillus' activity team, it was my duty to co-ordinate and facilitate daily activities for the residents of Saint Camillus hospital alongside a registered activity nurse and two of my fellow L.I.T. colleagues. One major skill I learned from my time in St. Camillus was the development of relationship with the residents under my care, and the maintenance of a healthy and professional relationship. I achieved this by devoting time to each individual resident and simply talking to them to find out their interests and their former way of life before health complications restricted them. In order to maintain a friendly bond with the residents I tailored my approach differently to cater for each individual. Through this I managed to develop a friendly relationship with all residents which made my time at St. Camillus that little bit easier. I am deeply thankful to staff, management, and all the residents in St. Camillus for providing me with such a wonderful learning experience.Other duties included:- The organising and facilitating of daily activities in each of St. Camillus three residential wards.- Daily health and safety checks to keep up with HIQA standards.- offered comfort to dying residents.- Organising day trips out, Including cooking classes and Christmas shopping.- Administrative duties such as doing daily activities reports.

For years Gosman's Dock Restaurant has been the corner stone of fine dining in the remote Hamptons town of Montauk in upstate New York. Gosman's boasts some of the most breathtaking dining views in all of the U.S. and attracts tourists from all over the world, It welcomes 700 diners every night of service whilst maintaining a level of excellence in both service and product.It was an honour of mine for this fine dining establishment to welcome me as apart of its family and to provide me with an unforgettable summer experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I am proud to have contributed to have helped Gosman's maintain a reputation it has worked so hard to achieve. On a personal level I am thankful to gosman's for providing me with the experience on how to work in a stressful and busy environment and introducing me to friends i will have for life. My duties included:- Serving a busy restaurant with upwards of 700 guests, and ensuring a top class service.- Maintained and provided a friendly service to customers at all times.- Expediting in the absence of the head chef for lunch service, ensuring the timely delivering of food to customers in order to provide the best experience possible for diners.-Placing the final garnishes on dishes to aesthetically accompany the highest quality of food.

HSE Training Services Limerick is a day centre for young adults with disabilities and is located in Dooradoyle Co. Limerick. My time spent here was another extremely valuable social care placement, and my first experience of working in the field. I am thankful to staff and management for allowing me the freedom to put my own stamp on the work i was doing. During my time here I wanted to explore the therapeutic work of play and did so through sport and art classes which allowed me to develop a relaxed environment which was fun and benificial for everyone involved. My duties included:- Organise two weekly sports classes including a 10 week football training camp focusing on basic drills and skills.- Art, Life skills, Carpentry and Geography - Supervision of horticulture class.
