The Watch Officer works within the MAR (Monitoring, Alerting, and Reporting) Centre; a dedicated 24/7 awake room.A major function of this role is to prepare and publish advisories and warnings during natural hazard events using a range of digital communication platforms such as Whispir and Emergency Mobile Alert.In this role I have contributed significantly to the design, development, and implementation of a Daily Intelligence Briefing which is distributed to NEMAs internal and external partners, and am consistently refining and improving on this product. Another major work stream that I have lifted off the ground is the design, development, and implementation of an Information Management Hub which is used by the Watch teams to better store, arrange, and archive information and correspondence, the volume of which is great being a 24/7 Operating Centre.As well as contributing to the design of multiple products and processes for the MAR Centre, I regularly write and report to the Minister for Emergency Management during severe weather events and the like, and continue to sharpen my written communication and reporting skills.
