Some of the work and projects I was involved in:• Report produced on best practice in town centre management in relation to East Herts.• Created a database of town businesses to facilitate communication.• Submitted funding bid for the EEDA Market Towns Asset development programme.• Submitted funding bid for EEDA Quality of Place fund, • 2 newsletters produced and delivered, Winter 2005 and Summer 2006.• Edited Buntingford in Wartime book of memories of town residents.• Wrote Town Centre Action Plan with short, medium and long-term goals.• Press liaison, promotion and admin in connection with our annual Classic Car and motorbike show.• Promotion of Town Centre activities at Carnival, Car show etc – e.g. selling Book and postcards, promoting heritage guide, tourism etc.

I was involved in a number of projects with other colleagues in the Economic Development Unit at East Herts Council. Firstly, researching and assembling data and statistics for an economic profile of the East Herts area, to inform policy decision-making. Secondly, working with external consultants to facilitate workshops and assist them in a research project on two local market towns and their rural hinterlands. Thirdly, looking at how the Economic Development Unit website could be improved and updated.I was also involved in some work on the regeneration of Ware charter market, looking at lifelong learning initiatives in Buntingford and some research relating to Section 106 agreements with contractors and best practice from a council perspective. Wrote a number of short reports relating to the housing market, unemployment and other economic aspects relevant to the local council area.

I taught and lectured on a variety of courses at University of Hertfordshire during my time there, from microeconomics to macroeconomics and economics for business, labour economics, economic development, global economic integration and quantitative methods. This was either as a course leader, jointly with other colleagues or as the seminar tutor and involved producing course documentation, lectures, essays and exam materials. I also supervised third year student dissertations.Research projects included:Researching the effects of non-standard work, i.e. part-time, temporary work and self-employment on the contemporary workforce and patterns of growth over a fifteen year period. The impact of the University on the local economy. Analysis of data relating to local branches of the print union.Data analysis from large datasets looking at a pattern of pension provision among the UK working population.An analysis of the impact of TV deals on football.
