Mark Denson, is an award-winning economic developer, lecturer, and thought leader, responsible for economic development strategy and operations with one of America’s leading economic development organizations, in one the of the most challenging markets, Detroit, Michigan.Mark, currently, Senior Director for Strategy and Operations with Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC). The Strategy and Operations team supports DEGC’s primary outward facing departments. Mark directs a team dedicated to understanding opportunities and threats, identifying new processes and solutions, while positioning DEGC for wins in both the short- and long-term. Recently, Mark served as Interim Vice President with DEGC, responsible for Business Attraction, Retention, & Expansion, Foreign Direct Investment, and Export services. Mark's experience includes: Director of North American Marketing with Detroit Regional Economic Partnership, marketing the Southeast Michigan Region throughout the United States and Canada. This economic development marketing program was designed to attract businesses and capital investment. Also, Mark, as Vice President of Livonia Economic Development Partnership, lead a multi-year economic development effort, including, business attraction, retention, and workforce development programs. Mark served as Manager for New & Small Business Services with the One Stop Capital Shop of Detroit, Inc., a program with the City of Detroit’s Empowerment Zone, designed to develop, retain and attract businesses. Mark spent several years in government service. First as Regional Economic Development Specialist to U.S. Senator Donald Riegle Jr., and as Legislative Aide for the Economic Development Committee and the Small & Minority Business Task Force, of the Wayne County Commission; then as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Wayne County Commission, crafting business friendly legislation.Mark is active in many economic development organizations.
