I have been a volunteer in Peace Through Play since 2012, but was elected Executive Director in 2016. Peace Through Play is the largest student-run organization on Northeastern University's Campus with over 100 volunteers. We are partnered with eight different locations in Roxbury, Dorchester, Back Bay, and Mission Hill. Within these partnerships, our volunteers provide after school care using lesson plans they design with the intent of countering the cycle of youth violence prevalent in urban communities using games and playful activities to promote a culture of peace and understanding.As Executive Director I maintained the moral imperative of the organization, served as a supportive resource for my board members, mediated conflict, and established a culture of openness and trust. I chaired all of the Executive Board and General Assembly meetings and communicated directly with our Director of On-Campus Affairs, Director of Local School Partnerships, and Director of Program Development and Assessment to ensure transparency and consistency throughout the organization.

As a member of Williams Elementary's Instructional Support Staff, I had many responsibilities. I had to be flexible and open-minded, as every day brought new responsibilities and new challenges. For most of my time at Williams Elementary, I served as an aide in one of the fifth-grade classrooms with a focus on an at-risk student with severe social and emotional challenges. However, I also executed K-5 lesson plans in the absence of the primary classroom teacher when needed, including the creation and implementing of lesson plans for Physical Education classes of all ages over the course of one month. I worked closely with an at-risk first-grade student over the course of four months who was having trouble identifying sight words, providing individualized literacy and emotional support which resulted in his surpassing the standards for first-grade literacy. I also led group literacy learning centers in one of the Kindergarten classrooms, adapting games and activities to facilitate the class's literary progression.
