About Mark Dodge
Twenty-five year museum professional experienced in exhibit design, fabrication, and programming, as well as collection, project, and institutional management. Passionate about public access to collections and grass-roots story-telling.A native of Michigan, I relocated to Colorado in 1998 to earn my MA in Museum Anthropology at the University of Denver. I honed my museum skills by gaining front-line experience at the Denver Art Museum, conducting exhibit evaluation at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and developing and designing numerous exhibits for the Fort Collins Museum. For 18 years I served as curator at the Golden History Museum & Park in Colorado. During that time, I developed dozens of exhibits featuring the local people, places, and objects that told their story. Some favorites include: Legendary People, featuring profiles of significant local women, Made in Golden, where I explored the who and why behind local innovations, and finally, Calendar Girls to Cowboys: The Art of Selling Coors, which showcased the evolution of advertising at the Coors Brewing Company.I managed the successful completion of our Discovery Awaits capital campaign, transforming and redesigning museum galleries and public spaces in the most comprehensive building remodel to date. In my role as curator, I was responsible for collection management, and together with my team made the collection accessible online, later partnering with the Digital Public Library of America to expand our reach. I also enjoyed writing new content through the museum’s blog and Discover magazine, as well as the city's monthly publication. After many years of service to the Golden community, I left the museum in August 2022 for a career break, and temporarily moved to the state of Washington before relocating to Santa Fe, New Mexico.Specialties: Curation, exhibit design and development, collections management, interpretive writing, and project management.
Listed skills include Museums, History, Exhibit Design, Museum Collections, and 18 others.
