Mark is the Chief Corporate Services Officer of Healthdirect Australia. As such he has broad corporate responsibilities including Human Resources, Legal, Risk, Procurement, Project Managment Office, Operational Reporting and Finance (and he also continues to cover the responsibility of Chief Financial Officer). This broader remit was effective March 2024 as he was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Healthdirect Australia from February 2021. Previous to Healthdirect he held the roles in tertiary education and government, including CFO of TAFE NSW up until December 2020, and prior to May 2016 was the Chief Financial Officer of the University of Sydney. He is a versatile and innovative executive with deep expertise in both Vocational and Higher Education, giving him a unique perspective of the challenges across all forms of tertiary education. Mark has supported both the University and TAFE NSW as they went through major reforms. At the University of Sydney, Mark was CFO for 9 years where he led a team of over 200 finance staff, and the University more broadly, through one of the most fundamental finance transformations in its history, involving the complete redesign of resource allocation models, upgrading the treasury and capital management, undertaking the Universities first borrowing and issue of bonds to the capital markets, major restructures and team development, upgrading transaction, reporting and costing systems, and re-engineering the financial performance of the University to enable it to fund a $1.7 billion capital program from 2009 to 2015 (its largest building program in decades).At TAFE NSW, Mark was a member of the management team that, during 2016 -2019, transformed and merged the 10 Independent TAFE Institutes into a single ONE TAFE organisation with 500,000 annual enrolments, 10,000 staff, 130 campuses and an annual budget of $1.85 billion. It was a complex transformation requiring major change management, new business and costing models, complex system transitions, and the building of new corporate functions (the unified finance, procurement and strategy team was over 200 staff). At the time it was one of the most complex public sector reforms in Australia, and has now created the largest Vocational Education provider in Australia, with extensive breadth and depth of training capability that will support the workforce transition challenges in the country.
