Environment Superintendent
Environmental Lead
Senior Environmental Advisor (Casual Basis)
Regional Manager, Environmental Services
A Senior Officer position, leading teams responsible environmental regulation (development assessment and compliance) of industrial and municipal activities in and around Gladstone, including the large mineral processing industries, the construction of CSG and LNG infrastructure, and port operation and expansion. This included having responsibility for environmental regulation during the public concerns over the dredging and impact in fish health in Gladstone Harbour.I also, previously also led teams in Mackay and Rockhampton.Represented Central Region on whole of state projects including "Building Integrity (Ethics)", "Review of Coastal Development Assessment Triggers to Reduce Green Tape", and "Recycled Water Regulatory Simplification Project".
Director, Underground Coal Gasification
I was seconded to this position, from my position in Emerald, to lead the department's regulation of the Underground Coal Gasification industry. This included leading the review of, and responding to, numerous statutory reports that were required from the three 'pilot' sites, with these reports of a very technical nature.I was also responsible for stakeholder liaison with a wide range of stakeholders, including members of the public, other government departments, members of the Indpendent Scientific Panel appointed by the government, and the companies undertaking UCG.I left this position only to take up the permanent position of Regional Manager in Central Region, but left at a point when a significant milestone had been achieved.
Regional Manager, Environmental Services Mining
Lead teams in three centres (with most staff in Emerald) in regulating the environmental aspects of the mining industry across Central QLD. The focus of the work was in leading the teams in assessing applications for new mines and expansions of existing mines, and undertaking proactive and reactive environmental compliance activities. The role also involved significant stakeholder liaison, including with local governments, mining companies, industry groups, conservation groups and other state government agencies. My appointment coincided with the introduction (and very public launch) of the Fitzroy Model Water Conditions for the coal mines in the Fitzroy Basin, and signifcant rainfall in the basin. As a result of this there was a requirement for significant reporting by the sites and I represented the department in a number of media (television and radio) interviews to explain the actions the department was taking.I left this position only due to the request made of me to take on the role of Director, Underground Coal Gasification in Brisbane.
Regional Operations Officer
Undertook project work, and regulated significant industrial and muncipal activities including the 5 large power stations in the Hunter region, the large wastewater treatment plants operated by Hunter Water, the construction of (and associated dredging in the Hunter River) for the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group coal terminal, and the remediation of Hunter River sediments by BHP. I also led the local assessments of state signficant projects, including the proposal for a Glass Wool plant in Newcastle and for expansion of Power Stations (covering both gas or coal as fuels).
Business Risk Manager
Lead teams responsible for WH&S, Environment, Quality, Governance and Technical Support. My position was part of the Leadership Team for the site contributing to setting site direction and responsible for meeting site objectives. As well as being responsible for ensuring compliance with legislative requirements I was also responsible for ensuring compliance with Diageo's Global Risk Management standards, with the site being recognised for its performance with respect to this, both globally and within the Australian business.
Manager, Projects
A Senior Officer position, this was a newly created position to focus on the project management of the assessment and enforcement of high profile and environmenally complex issues and developments. During this period I also acted in the position of Regional Service Director for the Southern Region on two occasions, and as RSD for Central Region on one occasion.Significant projects managed during my time in this role included environmental input and assessment for major infrastructure projects, including the Western Basin Recycled water Scheme, Tugun Desalination Plant, and the Southern Regional Water Pipeline. Providing environmental comment, and condiitons for approval, in tight timeframes to the Coordinator General was essential for these projects.
