Just one example of my innovation is the profound impact on supplier relationships that stemmed from me conceiving of and then creating a Supplier Onboarding Team. I recognized the need when I noticed issues arising when new suppliers didn’t understand the operating requirements of our partnership. Whether these misunderstandings stemmed from operational or cost, promising new relationships were getting off on the wrong foot with hard feelings—or worse—because of different expectations. I recognized there is a small window within which to advise, coach, and advocate for the supplier to create a great operational relationship. My Supplier Onboarding Team advises and coaches suppliers, advocates for them, and provides expert guidance and customer service. We’ve reduced supplier setup issues from 12% to nearly zero, and grew customer satisfaction from 47% to 94%. Other key contributions include:Pioneering a strategic shift in KeHE’s pricing model that balanced COGS control with effective trade spend and margin management, resulting in a 62% reduction in pricing maintenance and increasing sales by over $153M.
