Hired as a temporary graduate case handler by Capita on behalf of Lloyds Banking Group, I was tasked with processing the banks' customers complaints relating to potential Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) mis-selling. I would gather as much information on the customer from a wide range of bank systems, contact the customer for their statement and holistically analyse the legitimacy of their complaint before deciding on an uphold or defend decision.

As a subsidiary of the DTCC, Avox is an online business directory. I was tasked with creating and maintaining twenty worldwide business records on a daily basis.

After my teaching experience in China, I was keen to develop these skills further by operating as a cover supervisor and teaching assistant for a range of schools in the North Wales and Cheshire regions. This was a zero-hour contract and I was on-call daily to provide cover for whichever school required my services.

Once I graduated with a 2:1 English Literature B.A., I took the opportunity to teach English in China. Holding twenty lessons a week and teaching over eight-hundred students, I created lesson plans, held tests and competitions in order to help the learning process. Working as part of a team, it was our responsibility to produce contracts and post to new customers, receive and process returned applications and approve the customers' contract hire or standard leases. This meant a high volume of phone calls received by our office which could have been avoided because the customer would need to provide information on their first call before getting their number on their second contact. A temporary position at DIY and builder merchants B&Q after I moved to Swansea. Employed through a recruitment agency, I helped oversee the closure of a B&Q warehouse in Llansamlet. After B&Q management recognised my previous retail skills, I was placed in charge of a clearance section and single-handedly cleared a bulk of discontinued and damaged stock which had been stored for years within a matter of weeks.

James E James sold advertising space in an emergency services magazine. I would cold-call businesses seeking sponsorship for the emergency services. I developed the ability to sales pitch in this job.

I developed multiple skills during this time, such as budget planning, staff organisation and management, stock control and merchandising. Despite not selling alcohol, appliances, nor having its own car park like the larger Iceland supermarket, the smaller store consistently out-performed its sister store in regards to food sales and customers. Six months after I left the company - due to a serious injury I encountered at the time - my former store closed, which is testament to the fantastic staff I'd built up and trained, as much as it was down my own efforts. Bairdwear manufactured and supplied jeans to Marks and Spencers. Initially a gopher - moving jeans around the factory floor - I was quickly promoted to dispatch when management recognised my hard work and potential.

During a brief period of unemployment, I developed retail skills by briefly volunteering at a Scope charity shop.
