Research interests have centered on using spectroscopy to probe the molecular-level details of ionic liquids and ionic liquid/cosolvent solution mixtures. This work is performed using small fluorescent molecules to determine molecular solvation dynamics. We also study interactions between ionic liquids and various types of solutes including proteins, enzymes, and various biomolecules in general with application to biotechnology. My expertise is primarily optical spectroscopy, including steady-state and time-resolved (ps, fs) techniques. However, magnetic resonance is also employed as a secondary means of determining solution properties and behavior. My research experience also includes determining physicochemical and thermodynamic properties of ionic liquid solvents (and mixtures) through density, viscosity, and conductivity measurements.I'm happy to have discussions on any of these topics of interest.
