One of the most profound things anyone has said to me was early in my career when I was lamenting the difficulty of developing a business channel activity through to the end user. I’m not sure I quite got it at the time but, it stuck with me. Four simple words, “it’s all about relationships”, came to be one of the ardent rules of my success. Be it your customer, leadership, peer, or subordinate, the relationship you have will define the outcome.I have had the pleasure of working across several very different organizations meeting hundreds, if not thousands, of people where the outcome of our encounter was defined by the way we connected. Respect, trust, sincerity, and acknowledgement are the glue of those connections upon which I have always strived to build relationships.I’ve had the pleasure of working with many successful high performing teams and Yes, the methods and systems are important but, it is the relationships of those who execute them that make the outcomes work. I have found the application of mechanics in business is fairly straight forward. The real work lies in building and maintaining positive relationships within teams supporting a culture of trust and integrity.
