Dash 8-100 & 300I started at Hawkair on Sept 10th 2001, the day before the attack on the twin towers. I was there for 15 years and was the Chief Pilot for 11 of those years. The company went into insolvency in November of 2016. It was a great company with a good group of people and provided exceptional service to the traveling public. It was a constant battle to compete with Air Canada Jazz and when Westjet got into the commuter market it was the final nail for the company. Those companies will undercut ticket prices until they destroy a small company, which is business I guess, but in Air Canada's case it is hard to swallow since we as taxpayers have bailed them out to the tune of over 2 Billion dollars over the years. I thought we could have survived if we'd focused on charter operations and down sized a bit but it wasn't in the cards at that point.
