About Mark Jackson

A well-established and highly experienced Technical Director, Creature Supervisor, Senior Animator & Effects Designer with over 30 years professional experience. I'm a problem solver and pipeline architect who loves nothing better than getting stuck into complex issues and finding elegant solutions.I'm CEO and co-founder of Red9 Consultancy which I setup with a colleague specifically to help studios with their animation pipeline and rigging requirements. We've grown our services to include full scan based digital facial doubles and lipsyncing as well as our core business, the Red9 ProPack which is a full studio pipeline out of the box.Red9 originated from an open source project, the Red9 StudioPack for Maya, which I started just before joining Crytek and it's now integrated at the very core of all of our toolsets, ProPack and everything we do relies on it's core architecture.I also like to keep myself actively involved in the CG community. Hopefully my work stands up for itself, download the pack or watch the Vimeo channel, lots of help and tutorials on there to wet your appetite.30+ published games to date (starting to loose count)Specialties: Complex Maya Pipeline Management using Python to design advanced toolsets.Author: Red9 Studio Pack for Maya. Nominated: Autodesk Maya Master 2012.Life outside of Python and Maya?: sure, I'm married, 2 fabulous boys and a VW Camper, what else does a man want.

    Ceo & Technical Director
    Red9 Consultancy Aug 2014 - Present
    Loughborough, United Kingdom
Red9 Consultancy offers cutting edge production tools, rigging systems, bespoke workflows and support to the animation industry. Ever thought your studio or production could be working faster, better, more streamlined or efficiently but don't have the man-power, experience or R&D team to do anything about it.... that's where we come in.Red9 is already supplying state of the art pipeline solutions, rigging and facial systems to some of the largest film and game studios around the world. Our open-source StudioPack is expanding rapidly, gaining a huge user-base across the animation industry and recently becoming the only Maya App on the Autodesk Exchange site to be fully certified by Autodesk.
  • Deep Silver Dambuster Studios
    Technical Animation Director
Deep Silver Dambuster Studios Aug 2014 - Apr 2016
    Nottingham
Deep Silver acquired the Crytek UK studio and Homefront IP in 2014, I continued to push the animation tech and facial systems from the same desk but under a new company, Dambuster Studios. I also set-up Red9 Consultancy at the same time and continued to push both aspects of my work life hard. Homefront is released on May17th and I'm proud of how things turned out. You have to remember when playing it that all the generic facial, and much of the interactive scene facial was auto-generated by back-end lipSyncing and expression systems written in-house.... and that covered 6 languages, churning out updated lipSync on a nightly basis.
  • Crytek
    Technical Animation Director
    Crytek Oct 2012 - Aug 2014
    Nottingham, United Kingdom
What is it I do... kind of hard to explain, I design and supervise the Maya based animation pipeline across multiple studios with the help of my counterparts in the UK and Frankfurt. This is an ever growing beast, spanning all aspects you'd expect from a modern animation setup in a AAA studio. It's great to be involved in such an ambitious project with the challenges of syncing code and design between multiple studios, but it's a hell of a ride. For the last 8 months I've been deep in facial systems, writing a new facial core from the ground up for the current project, looking forward to finally seeing the hard work pay dividends. I think facial sorts the men from the boys, at the moment I feel like a teenager!Oh and I write the Red9 Studio Pack in what little spare time I get.
