Dr Mark Jacobs heads the Science Division, within the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation. Mark has 25 years’ experience in government leading and managing high performing teams developing and implementing science and innovation policies, strategies and programs. The Science Division provides scientific and technical advice and digital services to government agencies across the environment, natural resources and agricultural spectrum that underpin their decision-making and legislative responsibilities. The Science Division, which includes the Queensland Chief Scientist, also provides strategic leadership for the government’s investment in science and research and develops Queensland Government science policy. Before joining government Mark worked as a research scientist, both locally and internationally, and has maintained strong active industry, university and international networks.
