It was my job to create the area budget, maintain base production, minimize decline rates, identify optimization projects, manage operational lifting costs, manage the employees, and ensure that the corporate policies and direction were being followed at the field level.

In this job, I managed the day to day physical operations of the Penn West Energy Gull Lake, Saskatchewan oilfields which included being the relief Production Foreman when needed. It was my job to manage daily contract work to make sure it was done safely, efficiently, and cost effectively. I was also responsible to make sure the company operators (10 ) under my area of responsibility also worked in such a manner and to train and mentor any junior staff. I was also responsible for the planning and execution of turnaround activities and new facility start ups. Problem solving for operational issues was my responsibility and my specialty. Downhole knowledge was also a necessity.
