Mark is responsible for Design/Production software implementation, training, and procedure development & implementation. He is tasked with developing training documentation/procedural manuals for the Transportation Production teams to help build a consistent working environment between the individual groups (disciplines) within the office as well as the other WGI offices around the state. Mark is an in-house technical support specialist for the following applications: MicroStation / GEOPAK / Project Wise / FDOT Software & Workspace. He also assists the IT staff with Administering the company Project Wise datasource and iModel Sheet Composition Server (printing) for both internal and external (collaborative) projects.Mr. Kovach also assists the Transportation Design teams in performing various duties including but not limited to design (including 3D Roadway Design and Corridor Modeling - open Roads), plans production, quantities, documentation, and coordination. Current In-house projects developing a 3D Model for are: 1. I-4 (SR 400) from Orient Rd to I-75 Interchange2. Saint Johns Heritage Parkway Interchange. 3. Also assisting staff with the development of the 3D Model for SR 710 and US441.Mark has almost 27 years of experience in the industry and has worked on a few notable high profile projects including the I-4/Selmon Crosstown Connector Project near downtown Tampa and the I-4 Ultimate DB Proposal (ATKINS/Parsons Transportation Design Team).

PPIT, Tampa, Florida. PPIT – Plans Production Improvement Team. The PPIT was formed to develop and organize ATKINS standards for plans and document procedures. The intent is to inform and educate new staff as well as seasoned employees on how to prepare a set of plans and documents that symbolize quality of the ATKINS brand. Example plans (hard copy) have been prepared and posted in a common area within the Transportation group and on the Florida Transportation Intranet (Portal) website. The Florida Transportation Intranet (Portal) Site is a website that was developed over two years ago as a source of reference for designers, engineers, and technicians to locate resources that assist them in their day to day activities. The site includes links to reference manuals and standards as well as design procedures such as how to prepare a Pavement Design, quantify project materials for construction (quantities), utilize GEOPAK COGO to store alignments, calculate Superelevation, print plans and documents using ATKINSs variety of printers, and much much more. The FTIS is a project that is continually being developed and enhanced. It has proven to be a very resourceful tool within the Florida Transportation group.

I-4/ Selmon Expressway Crosstown Interchange, Hillsborough County, Florida.FDOT District 7 mega project with a construction fee of - $389.5 mil. Mark served as Senior designer and LTP (Lead Technical Professional) on this project for FDOT D-7 (District Seven). Responsibilities include managing staff and organizing tasks for completion of plans and documents for client delivery, assist the ATKINS Project Manager in coordination and communication with the client - FDOT D-7, responding to FDOT, THEA, and FHWA phase comments, preparation of design memos and design variations, revising the project horizontal and vertical geometry to accommodate additional lanes along S.R. 618, overseeing the plans production effort, coordinating with sub consultants and other ATKINS offices, maintaining project Team Site (website), and assisting in the preparation the comp cook and engineer’s estimate for four alternatives (Steel, Segmental, Bulb-T Steel, and Bulb-T Segmental).SR 93 to I-275 (from US 41 to north of Livingston Avenue), Hillsborough County, Florida.Performed as the Senior Designer and LTP (Lead Technical Professional) on this project for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Seven. Responsibilities include organizing tasks for completion of project, responding to FDOT phase comments, preparing a pavement design and design variation, updating/preparing a typical section package, updating the project design to reflect current standards, overseeing the plans production schedules, coordinating with sub consultants, and preparing the Comp Book and engineer’s estimate.
