As the librarian, I was involved in implementing district-wide reading initiatives based on the specific needs of the school and its population. I was also frequently called on to create curricula and teach classes on short notice, including a class on Contemporary Issues for freshman, as well as filling in for teachers on sick leave and continuing to implement their curriculum. I led professional development sessions and participated actively in professional learning communities.

I taught students at multiple levels, from inclusion classes through AP Literature, in a diverse district. I promoted inclusion and creativity in my classrooms through open-ended projects, as well as prepared students for state tests.

I taught cross-curricular work to high school freshmen in the Ethnic Studies program, which focuses on DEI, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy. In addition, I engaged with multiple teams in developing curriculum across content areas with social studies teachers and engaged students with lessons related to that cross-curricular work. During the pandemic, I continued this work for two years virtually, while being an active member of the Holyoke community.

Working in a district with high poverty, I crafted English curricula at multiple levels, from special ed to AP, and delivered it through a lens of inclusion. Students in my classes were given creative freedom and asked to engage with authentic assessments. I also participated in building the school culture over the course of five years.
