Working within the Middle Market Unit of the Erie Insurance. This consists of Commercial accounts in excess of $100,000 in annual account premium. My responsibilities include managing a growing a profitable book of Middle Market business in the states of North Carolina and Virginia. My current book totals $50M in Middle Market business. Coverages I manage include Commercial Property/Liability, Inland Marine, Automobile, Workers Compensation, Umbrella, Employment Related Practices Liability, Garage and Crime coverage. In addition to my underwriting duties, I assist with mentoring other underwriters within the company. I am also involved in coordinating Middle Market efforts with Risk Control and Marketing to further develop our book of business in my two states of responsibility. My background in both Middle Market business with other carriers and the ten years I spent as a Casualty Facultative underwriter, has given me a unique industry perspective when analyzing risk.

Currently managing a group of agency/customers located throughout upstate New York, Ohio and Western PA. My position includes being an information source to our agency plant as well as assist them to succeed using our products and services. Book of business that I am currently managing consists of BOP type accounts including small artisan contractors, Retail stores, office exposures, Restaurants, golf courses, Auto Service related business etc... I am currently managing a growing book of Golf Courses located throughout PA and OH. Coverages that I underwrite include Property, liability, inland marine lines within a BOP product or a standard package product. Supporting lines include Automobile, Workers Compensation and Umbrella lines of business. More recently I have become one of two key underwriters within the Western Regional Office to manage and underwrite our company's new Light Manufacturing product. I handled three of the top five agencies within the Westbrook office of Acadia. Involved in the planning, marketing, underwriting and managing an $11M book of Commercial Middle Market Insurance business written throughout the State of Maine. Underwrote Property, General Liability, Automobile, Workers Compensation, Inland Marine and Umbrella lines of business. Mentored younger underwriting personnel as well as participated in the underwriting training program with Acadia. Handled some of the largest accounts within the office which included a number of large Workers Compensation policies written on Retention Plans. Involved in the development of the premiums through the use of Risk Test Pricing or loss rating. Managed a book of 19 Synergy Accounts for Acadia. These are larger accounts with premiums starting at $100,000. The Synergy program is a Risk Management approach to managing risk and involved the underwriter, a loss control and claim point person, along with the agent/customer and the insured.Handled large General Contractors, Ice and Bait companies, Real Estate operations, Large Retail operations, Various Manufacturing, Wholesale operations, Ready Mix Concrete operations, Street & Road Contractors, "Dirt" Contractors, HVAC companies, a large private Liberal Arts College and Truckers. Most recently I was made the lead underwriting in developing the Agribusiness program.

Handled the largest premium volume for the office and some of the largest accounts. Was the corporate point person in the development and marketing of the Utica National's Fuel Dealer's Program. Wrote the first COP product for Utica on a Printer in fact. Involved in the underwriting and development of the Volunteer Fireman Program that Utica writes as well as Private Schools. Position involved a lot of travel to visit my agency customers for the purpose of developing new business opportunities. Handled a number of very large accounts involving Workers Compensation programs that were written on Retention plans. In addition, at Utica we had access to a number of loss sensitive and flat dividend Workers Compensation plans.

Worked as a Senior Facultative Underwriter for the New York Branch of Swiss Re. This involved the development, underwriting and management of an Automatic Facultative Book of Business (namely, the Automatic Facultative Umbrella Treaty for the Berkeley Group). Involved in developing and underwriting standard Casualty lines of business (Automobile, General Liability and Excess Workers Compensation). Primary customers were large National Accounts departments of various national primary insurance carriers.Book was heavy into Construction including sizable Wrap Ups and large Excess Workers Compensation layers. Book was also very heavy in tough products driven accounts both from an excess and umbrella basis. Work involved heavy use of Loss Rating to develop premiums and I worked closely with our Home Office Staff.
