Mark Linder is Professor in architecture and was Chancellor’s Fellow (2011-14) at the Humanities Center at Syracuse University. He has also taught at the University of Michigan, Harvard, University of Illinois-Chicago, Rice University, IIT, RISD, and UCLA.He is the author of Nothing Less than Literal: Architecture after Minimalism (MIT 2004) and is currently at work on a book titled That’s Brutal, What’s Modern? which argues that the intellectual formation and transdisciplinary design practices of The New Brutalism offer an early, exemplary case of modern architecture coming to terms with image culture..His current interests focus on images as an evolving mode of cultural currency and a subject that can provoke innovative research methods that can shuffle the presumed territories, limits, affiliations, theories and purposes of academic fields. Another long term transdisciplinary project (2001-2015) investigated Geographic Information Systems as an urban design media with the capacity to transform the discrete categories of census and municipal data into more pliable, fluid, relational images that can suggest new spatial densities, intensities, gaps, affiliations, networks, and latent communities. He has lectured throughout the U.S. and Europe and participated in numerous symposia and conferences, including "Inside/Outside" at Ghent University, “Chicagoisms“ at the Graham Foundation (2014), “What I Did Next” at Princeton (2012), “Comic Projections: Guilty Pleasures,” at UIC (2011) “Just Add Urbanism” at UCLA (2010), "Expertise"​ at Tel Aviv University (2009), "Architecture as Craft"​ at TU-Delft (2009), "The Work of Glen Seator"​ at The Getty Institute (2002), and "Things in the Making" at MoMA (2000).
