I have been working in environmental investigation and remediation for the past 36 years. Initially, my specialty was fate and transport modeling, especially multiphase, multicomponent modeling in the unsaturated zone. However, over the past twenty years, the growing need for statistical evaluation of groundwater and soil data propelled me into statistics. Over the past twenty years, my analyses focused on balancing accuracy and coverage, thus balancing Type I and Type II error. As a result, I have been heavily utilized by Arcadis project managers as an alternative to ProUCL. Of course, this led to a great demand on my time. I handled this situation by mentoring younger coworkers into more accurate statistical methods.
