Immediately uncovered database design flaws affecting data quality and reporting (as I was hired to). Eventually graduated to a new team. Learned a new and different environment for SQL and business intelligence by utilizing Looker and HiveQL to source from Hadoop instead. Accomplished exceptional proficiency without prior knowledge by drawing from experience and the fundamental understanding of computer science. Here I helped to build an in-house three way AR reconciliation system for the Finance department, retiring a 3rd party service. Through diligent investigation and engineering, achieved a 99%+ financial reconciliation rate (with some exceptions attributable to time zone differences ....whene there is no time portion provided from supplier in the date field). This helped the Finance department to pass external auditing and maintain it as such.• Uncovered data quality issues on the newer Big Data platform from SQL Server, and communicated them to the data engineering party, along with a technical solution thereby eliminating roughly 90% of ETL failures both seen and unseen• Migrated reports from Microsoft SQL Server to a Hadoop Big Data backend using Looker (enterprise visualization tool learned on the spot) to literally code (JSON like pattern) dashboards and user interfaces saving development time• Helped in analyzing architectural proposals and offered design feedback • Drove the standardization of key metrics across various business units to improve data governance, by naming of KPIs

Through the use of data warehousing and T-SQL development (w/ SQL Server) Iengineered difficult to create financial calculations (dealing with trusts and IRS law). Here I engineered complex T-SQL code modules, and solved many data integrity issues stemming from the incumbent design. Consultant engaged in projects to migrate data from legacy stove pipes to a consolidated master data source enterprise warehouse. This involves defining MDS naming standards and ETL development from the operational sources. Critical items addressed are schema design, identifying exisintg data duplication, data profiling, data sharpening, rules dealing with data merging across batches, and rules for existence of NULL in our new data warehouse

Joined a start up to help develop automated computer systems to help and/or replace manual tasks using the SQL Server and Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) platform. This includes a robust automated monthly procedure for finance that calculates royalties based on business agreements in contracts (that are subject to change) joined to transactions in that time period. Strategic reporting based on user understanding requirements is also an important aspect. Helped engage Business Intelligence in the architectural design during formation of a production database to store data related to new gaming products from the company. Designed and developed a self maintaining Google Analytics data cube using SSAS. This encompasses the dimensional (denormalized) database design, and ever critical quality of the ETL that imports into this database.

Responsible for the day to day heavy reporting needs of the company. After replacing two people, I managed to effectively become familiar with and maintain an extensive production database system that had no documentation or expert knowledge outside of the former employees. This includes a huge operational data store (includes web data points), and the dimensional warehouse database that served as the basis for the OLAP cube. Corrected various erroneous reports and reported other bug finds to the QA team. My crowning achievement is a consumer leads (product) quality control statistical system I created, that employs heuristics to match leads to sales, from two separate systems. It added a most critical piece to the larger quality control structure in place. The benefit of having two different communications styles, fitted to engineers and end business users, was valued. Above all, I gained a reputation for having my reports be correct when data discrepancies arose.
