I'm one of only a handful of people with the stamina to have hiked the Grand Canyon ( South Kaibab-to Phantom Ranch up Bright Angel), run 15 marathons, completed several Metric Century Rides, and a Century Ride. Have visited a total of 25 National Parks. Witnessed the aurora borealis at Michigan's UP. Encountered a grizzly bear at Glacier National Park. Hang glided Barker Dam, and Raccoon Mt. in Tennessee. Have caught fish as varied as black tip sharks in San Luis Pass, Bull Redfish while surf fishing in Galveston to lake perch in the UP. Buzzed by a meteor between Brady and Llano Texas, April 1987. Survived three near death experiences, most recent a life threatening case of West Nile Virus (got help from the Big Guy Upstairs, see Isaiah 40:28), another during hurricane Ike in '08 (near miss from neighbors falling pine trees). Also survived hypothermia in Galveston Bay after my kayak was overwhelmed by whitecaps driven by 35 mph winds, December '09. Have eye witnessed the supernatural, a ghost slamming the exterior and utility room doors during a fish fry at my home. After interpreting a vivid dream, in a previous life, believe I was a man-at-arms in the English Army at the Battle of Agincourt, 1415. 15 time finisher Houston Marathon. PR of 3:47:17 in the marathon , 1:53:53, Half Marathon at 53, 44:33 PR 10K and 19:57 in the 5K. Not bad for a 210 lb. "Clydesdale runner". Won and placed in my age group in running, cycling, duathlon and race walking events. Collector of antique fishing reels, and Classic Schwinn bicycles. Inspired by the Movie, "Vanishing Point" bought a 340 Magnum powered 1974 Dodge Challenger. In 1997 I quit my job and drove the Challenger to freedom. In a 6 month sabbatical I traveled the western US. I visited 6 National Parks - Big Bend, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Carlsbad Cavern and Guadalupe Mountain. I fished Galveston Bay, West Beach, and the Jetties, honing my fishing skills. Then my cash ran low and I worked for another 25 years. Caught 100 sand trout in Offatts Bayou October 1999 to earn the nickname Trout.Hiked Black Elk Peak, summer 2021. Like Chief Black Elk, I had a vision, mine was of a large sand trout. I interpreted this as a sign to retire and spend my remaining time on earth with family and friends.
