I currently work as a Project Officer for Chichester District Council where I lead volunteer work parties involved in enhancing and protecting the seven designated Strategic Wildlife Corridors around Chichester. The role also allows me to advise and help landowners in creating better, more joined up habitats from the coastal harbour up to the South Downs National Park.I also lead guided safari tours on a freelance basis at the Knepp Wildland Project estate, where I show visitors the different species of flora and fauna that is found on the estate and explain how the Knepp rewilding project has evolved and the fantastic benefits it has brought to wildlife biodiversity in this part of West Sussex, including the recent White Stork and Beaver reintroduction projects. After a very successful career in sales and service management I decided in 2019 to follow my passion in conservation and completed a one year internship with the RSPB as an Assistant Warden at the Pulborough Brooks reserve and subsequentally as a seasonal Public Engagement Ranger role for the South Downs National Park Authority, working on the Heathlands Reunited project. I assisted in the development and delivery of community engagement, volunteering, education and outreach opportunities by providing an active presence on designated protected sites within the South Downs National Park. I have knowledge and skills in wildlife conservation, habitat management and promoting nature in public engagement roles, with particular experience in practical reserve management work, BTO bird survey methods (e.g. BBS and WeBS), butterfly transects and leading wildlife walks etc.I have volunteered regularly for the RSPB and the Sussex Wildlife Trust for the last 17 years.
