Performed Mechanical Engineering duties as part of risk mitigation exercises for the NuScale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project. This included research, Computer Aided Design (CAD) modelling, testing of experiments to support proposed safety features of the NuScale SMR, and compiling reports on the experiments’ results.Completed critical review, verification and validation of multiple documents in a Design Authority capacity. Created CFD models of the NuScale Small Modular Reactor (SMR); designing from sketch drawings and using appropriate assumptions to develop a model which would effectively balance simulation run time with accuracy. Used CFD analysis software to analyse simulations; choosing efficient, reliable conditions in which to perform simulations which would allow NuScale to further understand the processes when the SMR is in operation. Designed concepts of experiments for the NIST facility at OSU; learning how to overcome the issues that arise in experiment design to provide an efficient and cost effective solution.
