I live on the Gold Coast with my family. We have been here in the area since 2001, when we moved up from NSW.In my career to date, I have mainly worked for myself, in a variety of businesses, from engineering to sales and marketing. I am an active member of the Paradise Model Yacht Club, and design, build and race ten rater model yachts at Emerald Lakes, in the central Gold Coast.Early in the 1990's, I was a founding partner and director of M2Technology, a research and development electronics company based in Auckland New Zealand.We developed products for other companies, and had great success developing new products for a military contractor.

At The Holiday Club, my role was to sit with clients and explain the benefits of purchasing holiday packages through the company, rather than paying individually for each holiday they took. This type of position was good for developing personal sales skills in a fast paced environment.I stayed with the company for just on a year.

My role was to take enquiries over the phone, and from people who would walk in to the office. I processed all loan applications, from start to finish.

I started the brokerage in 2002, after I sold my franchise back to Mortgage Choice. I wanted to expand the business quickly, so set up on my own as a way to have the freedom which I did not have as a franchisee. The first move I made was to do a radio campaign with the largest radio station on the Gold Cost. This resulted in $20m worth of sales in less than 6 months.

I purchased a franchise with Mortgage Choice in 2001, as the opportunities for design work in Queensland were limited, and I wanted to branch out and try something new. I learned a great deal during my time with Mortgage Choice, and it gave me a valuable grounding in the industry.

As a founding partner in this business, I enjoyed seeing the company grow over the 71/2 years I was involved with it as an owner and director. We started as a two man operations, and by the end of the first year, we were up to 15 strong. The company stayed around this size most of the time, and we did alot of design and development work, initially in the military sector, then later we branched out into agricultural and consumer electronics products and software. Our clients included Mitsubishi Electronics, Gallagher Group and Oscmar International.
