Experienced Police Officer with a Chief Constable's Commendation awarded following a particularly harrowing incident during his performance in a variety of extremely challenging public service environments. Mark is skilled in Criminal Investigations, Law Enforcement, and Training.Mark also has a strong military and protective services background and he graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst within the Sovereign's Company in 1992.His extensive education also included the highly desirable Ministry of Defence 4 Year Indentured Apprenticeship in Engineering and post Commissioning Mark assumed the role of Engineering Officer within the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers including appointments in command worldwide.He is currently a serving Police Officer seconded to Natural Resources Wales investigating all wildlife crime, European Protected Species offences as well as environmental and rural crime and is regarded as the lead officer in this arena in Wales.His many successful prosecutions in the court arena have supported his ability to drive through legislation changes and improvements in an effort to improve detection rates across Wildlife, Rural and Heritage crime.His formal recognitions have been impressive with 4 commendations from Natural Resources Wales and formal recognition from the Bat Conservation Trust and the National Wildlife Crime Unit.Mark was also awarded the All Wales Police Officer of the Year in May 2023 at a ceremony in Builth Wells presented to him by the Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys Police and the Secretary of State for Rural Affairs.Then in October 2023 he received the National Police Officer of the Year award at a ceremony in Stafford presented to him by the Deputy Chief Constable of Northumbria Police and the Head of the National Wildlife Crime Unit.Mark was also presented with the Pride of Gwent Award in 2021 for saving life.A keen sportsman and avid runner, Mark maintains a high level of fitness running 10k and Half Marathons most weeks. In his spare time he is a Foster Carer and with his wife's support has cared for and provided a home to 37 babies and 16 teenagers over the last 18 years.
