This was a Naval Ocean Systems Center owned and operated vessel that conducted mainly classified research. My duties was primarily the repair and maintenance of all electronic equipment on the vessel and as required watch standing duties when at sea. I picked up my Merchant Marine card while attached to the vessel. Was the first time I had really spent any time on the ocean. Never had any sea time with the Navy as it was all Naval Air experience. Most memorable was fixing the Canadian Marconi surface radar system on the ship, which had been inoperative for the previous two years. That and the crew I got to know while there.

At-2Us Navy Feb 1974 - Mar 1980Nas Barbers Point, Oahu HawaiFollowing boot camp in Pensacola, was assigned to aviation electronics schools in Millington, TN for about 14 months. Then transferred to VR-21 at Barbers Point, a VIP squadron that flew DC-6's. I was assigned to the AIMD for I-level support on communication systems. Following the shut down of VR-21 was assigned to VP-22 a P3 squadron where I worked on O-level avionics support on those aircraft. Eventually, became an aircrew IFT with Crew 10. Was deployed to several overseas assignments including Guam, Philippines, Diego Garcia. Most memorable was participating in rescue operations by spotting Vietnamese escaping from Vietnam to flee communism and indirecting surface vessels towards survivors for rescue.
