About Mark Randall

I am the Manager of the Digital Media Investigation Team at Hertfordshire Constabulary. In this role I manage 7 police officers and oversee the running of the department. I was given the task of creating this department which included research and purchasing forensics software and hardware, writing all guides, documents and standard operating procedures, acquiring accommodation, developing training packages and recruiting the team. The department deals with;• Support major crime, incidents and operations to gather intelligence and conducting proactive/reactive investigations where digital technology and data acquisition exists• Produce and deliver digital media investigation strategies• Attend crime scenes and searches including device preservation and recovery, router examination and device triage. • Prepare and present evidence in court.My main responsibilities include;• To be the technical lead in relation to front line digital forensic activity• To advise on technical matters and strategy in relation to digital forensics• Responsible for the development and maintenance of Technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and validation techniques• Maintaining ISO 17025 and ISO 17020 accreditation and Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice• To establish, review, maintain and develop existing and new analytical procedures and methods for digital forensics and communicate any changes to staff.• To lead on technical matters in relation to the QMS for all technical aspects of digital forensic activity within Hertfordshire Constabulary, and represent the department at a local, regional and national level.Prior to this, I was a Digital Forensic Investigator for 4 years. Where I attended the following courses;UKAS: laboratory management. EnCase Level 1 and 2X Ways Forensics Certified Mac Forensics Specialist (CMAC) at 7Safe Foundations of Forensic Computing at De Montfort UniversityXRY Intermediate UFED Cellebrite MCM Training Core Skills in Data Recovery course at the College of Policing First Forensics Wi-Fi recovery and analysis I am also familiar with other forensic tools such as Axiom, ADF, Griffeye, Lace, Internet Evidence Finder, FTK, Maquisition
