Chancellor
CurrentThe Chancellor, under the direction of the Bishop and as established by canon law, is responsible for gathering, arranging and safeguarding the acts and archives of the Diocesan Curia (c. 482, §1). By reason of office, the Chancellor is also notary and secretary of the curia (c. 482, §3). In the Diocese of Boise, the Chancellor also shares in the power of governance (c. 129, §2) by delegation of the Bishop to grant marriage permissions and dispensations and may be delegated other functions. The Chancellor manages the “Good Standing” verification process for clergy wishing to minister temporarily in the Diocese as well as Diocesan clerics who wish to minister temporarily in other Dioceses. The Chancellor acts as canonical advisor to the Bishop, curia, other diocesan staff, parishes and other ecclesiastical bodies. The Chancellor also directs Diocesan Tribunal and its activities, in collaboration with the Judicial Vicar, including acting as a Defender of the Bond, Assessor, Promoter of Justice or Judge as necessary. The Chancellor also directs the Diocesan Child, Youth and Adult protection programs as established by the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People and USCCB Essential Norms and is involved in various Human Resource management matters. The Chancellor may perform other functions and assignments as directed by the Bishop.
